Faculty

Sr.Rabia Hamid has been at the helm of Muslim Community School and Alim Preparatory Academy, as the Upper School Principal, since July 2008. Prior to having been promoted to Principal, Sr. Rabia worked as the high school coordinator, and also taught English to middle and high school students at MCS for four years. She is also the official AP coordinator, and SAT coordinator at the Alim Preparatory Academy. Sr. Rabia brings over 20 years of diversified educational experience which includes several years of experience in school administration, across the USA and Pakistan within academic institutions of global repute and quality She holds a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry; Master's degree in English literature and advanced degree in education. She has also earned graduate credits from Fitchburg State College in educational leadership. Sr Rabia also holds advanced professional certificate in Observing and Analyzing teaching from Montgomery County Public Schools which focuses on supervisory skills in challenging situations, linking course content to MCPS standards for teacher evaluation. Sr. Rabia is also a member of CAPE (Council for American Private Education) and has established positive relationship with the Montgomery County Board of Education, and the State of Maryland legislative body .She has participated in several professional development workshops which include National Partnership Schools, John Hopkins University, ISNA educational conference, and College Board workshops. Sr. Rabia has conducted many teacher training workshops supporting teacher growth and performance, and college counseling workshops for students and parents. While at MCS, she also works as adjunct faculty, Montgomery College, where she teaches ESL to adult students .Sr. Rabia has strong communication, and people management skills with high respect for diversity of knowledge, beliefs and cultures.

Faculty

Mr. Pat Elder returns to the Muslim Community School after a two-year leave of absence. Mr. Elder holds an M.A. in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland and a Maryland Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate. Mr. Elder has taught high school in the public schools for seven years. He operated a real estate settlement company for 20 years and has filled numerous charitable volunteer positions ranging from serving as a local United Way treasurer to serving on local government boards. Mr. Elder is active in the national peace and justice movement, particularly with organizations that challenge the militarization of American society. He teaches social sciences to middle school students and American history and US Government to high school students this year.

Ms. Sandra Lee joined MCS in 2008 as the upper school English teacher. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a minor in writing, Ms. Lee has had opportunities to work with ESL students in Korea, young students in preschools, and has tutored elementary to high school students for over four years. She has lived in Korea and the Philippines and has vacationed in Aruba and St. Lucia with her wonderful husband Ben. Her desire to travel grows every day as she hears wonderful stories from her well-traveled students. Ms. Lee loves literature because it encourages reflection and imagination, and she loves the English language for its creativity and simplicity. She is completing her Master of Arts in Teaching (Spring 2010) with a Secondary English Education certification, English as a Second Language Post-Baccalaureate Certification, and a 4.0 GPA. In September of 2009, Ms. Lee received the LaVerna Hahn Charitable Trust Scholarship. Ms. Lee hopes to grow her family someday and to own the ant farm she never got to have as a child. Some of Ms.Lee’s favorite authors are John Steinbeck, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, William Tennessee, and Toni Morrison. She teaches english to English, AP English and SAT English to middle and high school students .



Faculty

Sr. Nahla AbouShaara teaches 5th-8th grade level Science. Before joing MCS, she taught at Al Huda School (2000-2006) and Al Andalus Institute (2006-2008). She has extensive teaching experience with elementary, middle, and high school levels. She holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt. She teaches science to middle school students and Algebra 2 to high school students this year.



Faculty

Sr. Attiya Rehman is currently teaching high school sciences for MCS (earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics). She holds a masters degree in Biochemistry from Punjab University, Pakistan. Dedicated to her profession, Sr. Attiya has been teaching at MCS for more than 20 years.



Faculty

Sr. Nermiz Saleh teaches Arabic and Fine Arts. She attended schools in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Accounting from Cairo University. She is married to Br. Khaled Saleh and have two children: Ahmed and Nora. She enjoys teaching every year, meeting new students who are eager to learn. she en enjoys teaching Arabic, Drama and PE this year.

Sr. Shadi received her Bachelor of Arts degree at the American University in Washington, D.C. where she majored in International Relations with a focus on Peace and Conflict Resolution. She has always worked in the field of education starting with the Center for the Advancement and Support of Education. Later she worked at The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the most renowned academic honorary society in the United States. When she and her husband Nur Muhammad Osier began their married life, she left the workplace and began raising her two children, Sarah (8) and Nazim (5). Her hobbies are gardening and reading poetry. Her favorite word in the English language is lovely. Sr. Shadi joined the MCS family in 2008 as the high school English teacher. This is her second year teaching third grade.



Faculty

Br. Zain graduated from N.E.D University of Engineering and Technology Pakistan in Electronics. He joined MCS in 2009 as a Middle and High School teacher. He is certified in Computer Networking (CCNA-Cisco certified Network Associate) and CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional). His favorite fields are Automation, Controls, and Robotics. Br. Zain teaches Computer and Mathematics including Algebra 1, Geometry and SAT mathematics to middle and high school students.



Faculty

Kathleen Mokabber has been a first grade teacher at MCS since 2002. Before coming to MCS she was working in Montgomery County Schools for ten years. She received her Bachelor of Science from Towson Universtiy in Baltimore, Maryland. She was awarded Teaching Certification from the District of Columbia for Teaching Elementary Health and Physical Education. More recently she has attended workshops in Reading and Writing at Columbia University in New York.



Faculty

Sr. Nusrat Zaidi joined MCS in 2007 as fourth Grade Homeroom teacher. She holds a Masters degree in English Literature and Language, from Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan and TESL ( teaching of English as Second Language) Ontario Certification.(Canada). Sr. Zaidi has some fifteen years of teaching experience, both at elemnetary and secondary level from Pakistan, Canada and in USA. Currently, she she is teaching fifth grade. In her free time she loves to read books especially the authors from Indo_Pakistan. One of her greatest desire is to translate few Urdu classical novels in English.

Sr. Farideh Imani has more than 17 years teaching experience in Art. She graduated with the technical college degree from Somayeh University in IRAN. She taught art (such as fashion designer, needle work, and craft) for 13 years in the high school and 2 years as an Instructor in the college. For the last 4 years she is teaching art at the MCS.



Faculty

Sr. Farida Khan is the Lead Teacher of the nursery level. She joined Muslim Community School in 1993 as a Teacher's Aide in the Early Childhood Education Department. She attended PCHS College for Women (Karachi, Pakistan). She later received a Certificate for the Early Childhood Education Program (MD) and also completed clinical/coursework for Certified Nursing Assistant (MD).

Sister Amenah Tehrani has been at MCS for ten years now after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, A Minor in Religious Studies and A Minor in Art Education from the State University College at Buffalo. While at MCS over ten years she served in many positions: School-Wide Art Teacher, School Librarian, ESL Teacher, Third Grade Teacher and Second Grade Teacher. She was one of the founding P.T.O. Officers of MCS and served The Parents and Teachers Organization at MCS for over 5 years in various positions. She went back to school to persue a degree in Surgical Technology and graduated in 2004 from Montgomery College after performing over 720 hours in the Operating Room and Intensive Courses in Surgical Procedures and Pharmacy. She worked from 2005 to 2007 in several of the local hospitals in their Main Operating Rooms assisting doctors with surgeries with a specialty in Ear, Nose & Throat and OBGYN. She has a great interest in Japanese Historical Fiction and Cooking. She lives in Maryland with her husband and sons who all attended MCS as well.
