High School Program (Grades 9-12)

(GRADES 9 – 12)

Eligible Students:
The High School Program is for students who have successfully completed Grades 8-11. Students who have not successfully passed can enter the program of the repeated grade for remediation and review.

Registration Begins:
April 1, 2008. To register for the high school Summer LAF, mail the completed registration form and appropriate payment (MasterCard, VISA, check or money order) to: Muslim Community School, 7917 Montrose Road, Potomac, MD 20854. Incomplete registrations will not be processed. Registration may also be done online at www.mymcs.org.

Registration Ends:
June 20, 2008—Full session (High school students must attend the full summer session)

High School Program Calendar:

August 15, 2008—Last Day of Summer LAF

Class Schedule:
8:00am – 3:15pm Daily (There is no half day program for High School)
Students will choose one course for which they will receive one high school credit upon successful completion of all course requirements. They will also participate in Islamic Studies/Qur’an, Foreign Language, swimming, and other special activities. See the table below:

**Special activities include on-campus carnivals, field days and competitive sporting events. In addition, there will be off-campus special activities such as laser tag, rock climbing, bowling, hiking and other adventures.

***The High School Program is worth 1 full academic credit. In order to receive this credit, students must have 160 hours of course instruction.

Tuition:
Full High School Session - $1200
Multiple child discount: Full tuition for 1st child, 10% for 2nd sibling and 15% discount for 3rd sibling.

Grade Reports:
Each student enrolled in Summer LAF will receive a report card on the last day of the session. Transcripts will also be available upon request.

Medical Information:
It is the responsibility of the parents’ to notify the administration of MCS of any important medical information pertaining to your child(ren). On the first day of class, parents and/or legal guardians should complete the Medical information Form to MCS administrative office to report any special accommodations required for the student. The form can be picked up at Muslim Community School, 7917 Montrose Road, Potomac, MD 20854 or downloaded at:www.mymcs.org

COURSES:
Algebra 1 (HS-M1)
This is the introductory high school Algebra course. This class is open to all students entering grades 9 – 12.

Geometry (HS-M2)
This is a Fundamentals of Geometry course, open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed Algebra 1.

Algebra 2 (HS-M3)
Open to students, entering grades 9 – 12 who have successfully completed Algebra 1 and Geometry, this course allows students to complete the requirements of Algebra 2 at their own pace. Accelerated students may conduct a student-led Mathematics research project.

Pre-calculus (HS-M4)
Open to students, entering grades 9 – 12 who have successfully completed Algebra 1 & 2 and Geometry, these students will review all of the fundamental Algebra concepts and be introduced to Trigonometric ideas. Accelerated students may conduct a Mathematics research project.

Biology (HS-S1)
This is a basic high school Biology course, open to all students entering grades 9 – 12.

Chemistry (HS-S2)
This basic high school Chemistry course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed Biology.

Physics (HS-S3)
This course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed Biology and Chemistry, as well as Algebra 2, these students will do an in-depth exploration of the fundamental concepts in Physics.

U.S. History, Grade 11 (HS-H1)
This basic high school History course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed U.S. History, Grade 9 and National, State and Local Government, Grade 10.

English 9 (HS-E1)
This basic high school English course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed English 8.

English 10 (HS-E2)
This basic high school English course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed English 9.

English 11 (HS-E3)
This basic high school English course is open to students, entering grade 9 – 12, who have successfully completed English 10.

Islamic Studies/Qur’an, Grades 9 – 12 (HS-ISG; HS-ISB)
In each class session, students will collectively read at least one section of the Qur’an. Using tafasir, Arabic dictionaries and their instructor’s expertise, students will address questions and concerns that arise from their reading. Students will be also responsible for keep a running list of questions, and submitting the questions to different scholars for response. Since MCS is a nonsectarian school, when issues of Fiqh are introduced; they are addressed from both the Sunni and Shia Schools of Thought. This class will be separated by gender, girls should register for HS-ISG and boys should choose HS-ISB. This class is open to entering grades 9 – 12.

Swimming (G-SWIM; B-SWIM)
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a private swimming session, once per week. During this one hour session, students will be given a 30-minute swimming lesson and 30-minutes of free swim. Swimmers will be divided into two classes, by ability. Boys and girls will be attending swimming sessions on two separate days.

Foreign Languages (HS-FL)
Students will have the opportunity to choose a foreign language to study throughout a session. Classes will be offered in Spanish, French, Farsi, and Arabic to enhance students’ knowledge and expand their cultural horizons.
